Important Notes on Mechanical Properties:

  • Re = Yield Strength (0.2% proof strength or lower yield strength ReL)
  • Rm = Tensile Strength
  • A80 = Elongation (minimum percentage)
  • r90 = Plastic strain ratio (applies to thickness ≥ 0.5 mm)
  • n90 = Tensile strain hardening exponent (applies to thickness ≥ 0.5 mm)
  • Thickness Adjustments:

– For 0.5 mm < t ≤ 0.7 mm: Re increases by 20 MPa, A80 decreases by 2%

– For t ≤ 0.5 mm: Re increases by 40 MPa, A80 decreases by 4%

– For t > 2 mm: r90 decreases by 0.2

6. Surface Quality

QualityDescription
Surface Quality AMinor defects permitted that do not affect formability or surface coating application. Includes: pores, slight indentations, small marks, minor scratches, and slight coloring.
Surface Quality BBetter surface must be free from defects that might affect: Uniform appearance of quality paintElectrolytic coating Other surface must meet at least Quality A requirements.

Important Notes:

  • For coil/slit coil delivery, higher percentage of surface defects may occur compared to sheet/cut lengths
  • Unless otherwise agreed, only one surface needs to meet specified requirements
  • Surface Quality B is not applicable to non-skin-passed products

Notes:

  • If not specified, products are supplied with normal finish (m)
  • Roughness measured according to EN 10049
  • For automotive applications, cut-off value 2.5 mm may also be used
  • No specific surface finish can be specified for non-skin-passed products

8. Delivery Conditions

8.1 Skin-Passing

  • Products are normally supplied skin-passed
  • Non-skin-passed products available by agreement
  • Skin-passing prevents stretcher strain marks during forming

8.2 Oiling and Corrosion Protection

  • Products normally delivered oiled (both sides)
  • Neutral non-drying oil, free of foreign bodies
  • Corrosion protection guaranteed for 6 months from availability
  • Oil removable by alkaline solutions or normal solvents
  • Non-oiled products available on request (higher risk of corrosion and scratches)

8.3 Surface Coating Suitability

  • Products suitable for metallic coating (hot dipping, electrodeposition)
  • Suitable for organic and other coatings
  • Intended coating must be specified at enquiry/order

8.4 Weldability

  • Products suitable for standard welding processes
  • Welding process should be specified at enquiry/order (especially for gas welding)

9. Product Designation

The designation consists of:

  • Product form (sheet, coil, slit coil, or cut length)
  • Standard reference (EN 10130)
  • Steel name or number
  • Surface quality symbol (A or B)
  • Surface finish symbol (if applicable: b, g, m, or r)

10. Tolerances on Dimensions and Shape

Tolerances for dimensions and shape are specified in EN 10131.

11. Testing and Inspection

11.1 Inspection Unit

  • 30 tonnes or fraction thereof for products of same grade and nominal thickness
  • Coils exceeding 30 tonnes constitute a single inspection unit

11.2 Testing Requirements

  • Tensile test required for each inspection unit
  • Determination of r and n values where applicable
  • Tests carried out at ambient temperature in delivery condition
  • Test pieces perpendicular to rolling direction (when width permits)

11.3 Test Methods

  • Tensile test: EN 10002-1 (Type 2 test pieces: Lo = 80 mm, width = 20 mm)
  • Surface roughness: EN 10049
  • Plastic strain ratio r: ISO 10113
  • Tensile strain hardening exponent n: ISO 10275
  • Chemical composition: EN ISO 14284

12. Information Required from Purchaser

The following information must be provided at time of enquiry and order:

  • Full product designation (as per clause 4)
  • Nominal dimensions, tolerances, and quantities
  • Mill edges or trimmed edges
  • If non-skin-passed delivery required
  • Mass and size limits for coils/bundles
  • Intended application including surface coating
  • Welding method if applicable
  • If suitable for making specific part
  • Type of inspection document required (EN 10204)
  • If external inspection required
  • If oiling not required
  • If other protective coatings required
  • Special requirements for packing and marking
  • Position of better surface quality (if applicable)
