DIN 6930-2 Stamped steel parts –Part 2: General tolerances

Stamped steel parts –Part 2: General tolerances, English translation of DIN 6930-2:2011-10 (Dimensions in millimetres)

Here’s a guideline table explaining when to use each table from DIN 6930-2:

Table No.TitleWhen to UseApplication Notes
Table 1General tolerances for linear dimensions of flat stampingsUse for flat stampings that are only cut (stamped, punched, or sheared) without any bending or forming.Applies to linear dimensions such as lengths, widths, and hole diameters in flat parts.
Table 2General tolerances for radii of curvature of flat stampingsUse for flat stampings with radii, such as round edges or fillets, but without forming operations like bending or deep drawing.Does not apply to bent parts; only for cut features in flat stampings.
Table 3General tolerances for angular dimensions of flat stampingsUse for angles in flat stampings where no bending or forming has been applied. If bending is involved, refer to Table 5 and DIN 6935 instead.
Table 4General tolerances for linear dimensions of stampings manufactured by formingUse for formed stampings, including bent or deep-drawn parts.Covers dimensions affected by forming operations such as bending or deep drawing.
Table 5General tolerances for radii of curvature of stampings manufactured by formingUse when bending, deep drawing, or other forming has been applied.Applies to bending radii, meaning it is critical for determining tolerances in formed parts.
Table 6Straightness tolerance for strip and sectionsUse for strip materials and bent sections to ensure straightness requirements.Mainly applies to long strips or profiles that may have bending distortions.

How to Use This Table

  • If the part is only cut (stamped, punched, or sheared), use Tables 1, 2, and 3.
  • If the part is bent or deep-drawn, use Tables 4, 5, and 6.
  • For angular tolerances in bending, refer to DIN 6935 instead of Table 3.

Table 6 — Straightness tolerance n for strip cut by shears and sections bent from strip (notation)

The straightness tolerances are based on a minimum ratio of strip width b to product thickness s of b: s = 25: 1 (see also Figure above). For sections bent from strip, the tolerance n given in Table 6 applies for each longitudinal axis of the section.
