SHAPE DRAWING
The Method
A prismatic blank is drawn through a formed, polished die manufactured of tool steel, cemented tungsten carbide, or diamond. It is possible to draw hollow prismatic forms.
The method is only applicable to ductile metals.

Design principles
Long forms with homogeneous cross-sections are the only options.
Technical information
The draw force must be lesser than the strength of the issuing portion, the area decrease is often less than 50%.

Seamless tubes, rods, and basic prismatic forms.
WIRE DRAWING
The Method
A cylindrical blank is drawn through a polished, hardened die to reduce its diameter in WIRE DRAWING. Tool steel, cemented tungsten carbide, or diamond are used to make the die. Diamond dies are more costly.Because the degree of area reduction per die is limited (less than 50%), the wire is run through a series of drawing dies until the required final diameter is obtained.
The method is only applicable to ductile metals.

Design principles
Only uniform cross sections are permitted. The majority of wire produced has a circular cross section, however square, rectangular, and curved wires are also produced.
